Ottawa Valley at a Glance
Despite its inland location in southeastern Ontario,
the Ottawa Valley is known for its exciting waterways, including the Ottawa and
Madawaska rivers, which are reputed to have the largest rapids this side of the
Rocky Mountains. The region, which
is home to important communities like Pembrooke,
Renfrew, Arnprior
and Wilno, also has
a number of scenic canoe and kayak routes, not to mention a plethora of fruitful
fishing holes, which are all well-known throughout Canada.
Deep below the surface of the region is an amazing network of caves, the Bonnechere
Caves, which can be explored daily. Take a trip back to the good old days
at the Champlain
Trail Museum, which has a number of displays and artifacts reflecting days
gone by. The Airborne
Forces Museum at CFB Petawawa has an impressive display of military memorabilia,
including tanks, airplanes and helicopters. Finally, a stroll through downtown
Pembrooke will reveal 29 fascinating murals
that pay homage to the town's history in the timber industry.
